Probably very few of us have ever heard of it: Solid Cologne. Some may remember the advertisements showing men spraying or spritzing themselves with aftershave or fragrance. Solid cologne is nothing like that. It doesn't come in a fancy bottle that's difficult to fit in hand luggage on a plane, nor can you spray it liberally all over your face and body.
It's exactly what it sounds like—a fragrance in solid form. The product is made from a wax base whose origins date back to the Egyptians. We owe many of our best beauty inventions to them. Solid cologne is experiencing something of a revival, and it's easy to see why: it's easy to use, easy to transport, and has many other benefits. Instead of water as a base, a solid perfume uses natural wax, such as beeswax or shea butter, as a carrier for the fragrance.
Why should you use a solid cologne?
There are many benefits to using a solid perfume that you've probably never considered before. First and foremost is portability. Colognes usually come in a small, pocket-sized tin, making them easy to slip into your pants or jacket pocket when you're on the go and need a quick pep-up. Nobody wants to lug around their 200ml bottle of perfume. After a long day at work that leads directly into date night, a solid perfume like this comes in very handy.
Most brands that produce solid colognes today also choose to use organic ingredients like essential oils, shea butter, and beeswax. This gives you a product that not only makes you smell good but also nourishes and moisturizes your skin.
Plus, you won't overwhelm anyone in the elevator at work with a solid perfume. It's effective, but also much more discreet.
How and where do you use a solid cologne?
One of the key advantages of this new interpretation of men's fragrance is its ease of application. Simply rub a small amount exactly where you need it: wrists, ears, and neck.
Wipe the wax with your fingers to warm it, then spread it on the desired areas of skin. The scent will easily last for several hours and will be repeatedly reactivated by your body's own warmth.
As a rule, solid colognes are very economical and last for several months without any problems.
